Why do I write?
Since the US went to war in the Middle East, I have become more and more concerned at the nightmare being spread through the world in my name, powered by the people and resources of my country. I don’t feel particularly empowered in the situation though I have numerous involvements to that end. However I don’t feel I can ignore it.
As a Buddhist, I have made it my practice to be a witness to the ongoing chaos and devastation. As a citizen of the world, I reach out through whatever venues are available, blogs, political organizations, educational initiatives and demonstrating to bring about change.
Twenty Five years ago, home alone with an infant and no means of support in sight, I taught myself to program a computer. It took nearly 10 years to finish school and get a job as a programmer, while cleaning houses and taking temp office work. But, my son and I finally joined the Middle Class. Now I not only make it possible for others to use the computer, but it has become my platform for self expression.
I have been studying and teaching yoga for 10 years. I like Iyengar Style yoga, and particularly like working with non-athletes and people who are interested in self-healing. I am also a Buddhist with a special interest in Tibetan Buddhist practices. When I completed my Computer Degree, I moved on to study Yoga. Now that I am a relatively experienced Yoga Teacher, I am focused on International Events, Issues and History of the Middle East.
I am comfortable with Buddhism because there is no Supreme God and one’s life is one’s practice. The first and last practice of Buddhism is to visualize a world where all beings are happy and well. “Om Mani Peme Hum” is the mantra to manifest universal compassion which encompasses every individual being.
