Living in Suliemaniya
This is a little description I wrote when I was first in Suliemaniya. We didn’t have our satellite modem yet, and it never got posted.
My hosts and employers, Sirwan and Banaz have two schools, PIE Institute, the language school where I will be working, and PIE Kindergarten, a daycare center which is on the next street over from the Institute. We, the American English Teachers, live in an apartment on the second floor of the Kindergarten. We have two bedrooms which we share. Each of us rooms with one other person. My room is spacious and open, with a large window behind my bed. Micca and I have a Swamp Cooler, while AJ and Martha have air conditioning in their room. The swamp cooler is nice because it provides humidity with the cool air, and they are very popular all around here because of that. The downfalls are that it uses a fair amount of water and you can’t run it continuously. However, I prefer it. Read the rest of this entry »
